ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to survey the cognition and acceptance of implant dentures among Chengdu residents in 2005 and 2013 and to comparatively analyze the differences and influencing factors.

METHODSA questionnaire was designed for this study. Its main content included basic demographics of respondents (gender, age, cultural level, and income level), cognition level of implant dentures (concept and main characteristics of implant dentures), main concern of respondents regarding implant dentures and medical institutions, and acceptance level of the price of implant dentures, among others. The sampling survey was carried out among Chengdu residents in 2005 and 2013 using the designed questionnaire. The results were then statistically analyzed.

RESULTSUp to 908 valid questionnaires in 2005 and 905 valid questionnaires in 2013 were obtained. The level of cognition of implant dentures was higher in 2013 than in 2005, and the correlation between cognition and cultural level and that between cognition and income level were both positive. However, the correlation between cognition and age was negative. The success rate for implant dentures and medical treatment technology of medical institutions were the factors that the respondents were mainly concerned with. The main methods for disseminating information on implant dentures were the internet, television, newspapers, magazines, and introduction by friends.

CONCLUSIONWith the development of the society's economy and the improvement of culture and income level of Chengdu residents, the cognition and acceptance level of implant dentures have gradualy increased. Meanwhile, health education and medical technology still need to be strengthened.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the effect of the shape of mandibular arch on uprightness distortion ratio in computed orthopantomography. Methods 20 specimens of adult head with different shape of mandibular arch were selected. The computed orthopantomography was performed after the markers were inserted in the marking points of mandible, the length of the markers were measured with computer, and the results were statistically analysed. Results In computed orthopantomography, the uprightness distortion ratio of anterior teeth area of square mandibular arch(11.77%) was higher than that of tine mandibular arch(5.05%),and the difference was prominent(P=0.011

ABSTRACT

Objective This study simulated clinical implant surgery using squeeze technique by establishing a rational animal model. We investigated the microscope image in order to observe the agglutination of the cancellous bone after being compressed. Methods The cancellous bone in condyles of dog femur had been chosen as the experimental position, the implant holes were prepared using squeeze technique according to different compressing extent(0,0.6,1.2,2.0mm),and then the corresponding implants were inserted into them. After different healing periods(1 week,2 weeks,4 weeks,12 weeks),the mongerl dogs were sacrificed and the hard tissue slices were made, then the architecture of the cancellous bone was observed using microscope. Results The architecture of the cancellous bone was changed obviously by squeeze technique in 1 week,2 weeks and 4 weeks hard tissue slices. After being compressed, the bone trabecula around implants was compact. Conclusion The clinical implant surgery using squeeze technique helps improve peri-implant bone density, which is good for obtaining primary stabilities of implants.
